About

I was born and raised in South Florida. My passion for the outdoors was inspired through the many opportunities and fantastic fishing that is abound in and around the Florida Everglades. It wasn’t until the age of 13, when I was able to start getting into hunting. As with most, my hunting and fishing was inspired through my Dad. We spent many a season hunting in the vastness of the Ocala National Forest. It would be several years before I was able to harvest my first animal. But, after that initial breaking of the ice, everything seemed to fall into place!

I eventually moved to Central Florida, into more of a rural environment. The opportunities to hunt and fish were plentiful and of fairly good quality. I slowly started to steer away from fishing and began spending my free time hunting the many available WMA’s (wildlife management areas) that were located in the region. Even though I thoroughly enjoyed it, fishing became an after thought, when compared to chasing game, especially with archery equipment.

Again, it would be several years before I took my first archery animal, a small buck in the state of Georgia. The persistence and patience paid of, as I began to focus most of my attention on archery hunting/shooting. I started to venture out of the state around 1996, with my Dad and me, having a lease in south central Alabama. Although the logistics of traveling the 9 hour drive seemed to be a little out of reach (especially on my means), we made it happen and were able to capitalize on the sacrifices made. After several years of hunting in the state of Alabama and meeting my current wife, I began to make trips to Ohio. Although the first couple of trips were non-hunting related, the opportunities and game I observed began to occupy my mind.

I began to make several trips from Florida to (wife’s) family property in SE Ohio. The hunting was not what I was used to in the south. The game was plentiful, as were the numerous opportunities to harvest. I began to learn to hunt the winds of the varying and hilly terrain, as well as, pattern these seemingly cagey animals. The topography made it difficult and I soon became much more “scent conscience”. I began to harvest many more animals with both gun and archery. And seeing how opportunity was abound, I leaned more to the bow for my fulfillment.

So now, here I am, many years later and the desire and passion to harvest mature animals, is stronger than ever!  The ability to research and travel has now entered my grasp. I currently try to plan one out of state trip each year. Whether this is to chase Muleys across the prairies of Alberta or Giant Illinois and Iowa whitetails! I am always seeking a new challenge, no matter what or where.

So, why the blog (?), you may ask!

Is it a case of Narcissism or just plain Arrogance? Not Really!

For years, I have tried to discipline myself to keep a journal of the highlights and encounters that I come across in my journeys. And, trying to explain (from memory) what, when and where, has become more difficult, especially when long hours are had in the tree. In short, this blog is not just about me, it is also for me. I thought that I would like to share my experiences with some of my friends and family, or just anyone that happens by!
